Alpha Murals

There are 27 murals in the township of Alpha and all tell their own story of rural life in the region. The murals became when a group a local artists painted a wall in 1991 and today have became the vocal point for Alpha with murals being painted on most public buildings.

The largest mural in town is featured on the Railway Goods Shed. Commissioned by Queensland Rail it is a tribute to the part that the railway has played in the development of the district. Without the navvies and settlers forging their way through the land in the 1880s, and the steam trains of bye gone years, Alpha would not exist. Sadly, Alpha is no more the railway town it was in past years, with only the remnants of a much larger workforce remaining.

The latest mural to be painted is of a man on a horse riding into the sunset, generously painted by a Grey Nomad.
