Located just an hour north of Melbourne, the Kyneton Museum collection is housed in a beautiful bluestone building recognised by the National Trust and designed by architect Andrea Stumbucco who was responsible for many beautiful buildings in the Gold Rush era.
The latest exhibition showing at the Kyneton Museum is Beyond the Tattoo. This fascinating exhibition explores the anthropological origins of body modification from various cultures, looking at the social implications of permanently altering one's natural state through tattooing, indigenous scarification and piercing.
The exhibition features items loaned from private collector and owner of Victoria's only tattoo museum, Brett Stewart. Some of the collection highlights include tattoo machines from the 1800's, Flash artworks, Ta Moko 'Uhi' tools and some of the most bizarre homemade and prison contraptions you will ever see.
The rest of the Museum is open as normal, so come in and enjoy wandering around the gardens and taking in the outside displays.
