Spend a Sunday afternoon exploring the warm and cosy homestead of the late Scobie and Claire Mackinnon.

Built in the early 1860s and remodelled in 1938, this homestead elegantly echoes the lifestyle of D.J.S (Scobie) Mackinnon and his Hollywood star wife Claire Adams. Based on a working farm near Skipton, the home feels like its tenants have merely stepped out for the day, complete with family photographs, furniture, curios and objects d’art invoking memories spanning the late 1930s right through to the 60s.

The 600-acre nature reserve is also home to kangaroos, swamp wallabies and numerous birds including brolgas. Many birds of prey, including wedge tailed eagles, can also be seen here.

The Mackinnon Nature Reserve has become one of the leading centres for the re-establishment of the endangered Eastern Barred Bandicoot. There are self-guided walks of the reserve for visitors.

Bring a picnic lunch and roam the extensive gardens, park and outbuildings, or relax in the bird hide and watch the waterbirds as they glide the dam.
