Taking its name from an Aboriginal phrase meaning river with scrub, Para Wirra Recreation Park is one of the major recreation parks in the greater Adelaide metropolitan area.
The park’s beautiful bushland setting features Pink Gums, Blue Gums, yackas and heaths. Immerse yourself along scenic walking trails or make the most of the park’s excellent facilities, including picnic shelters, gas barbecues and a bush oval.
The forest floor is also a wonderful location for children to learn about nature. Rocks and leaves provide a great camouflage for reptiles such as Bearded Dragons and Striped Skinks. Emus often strut through the picnic ground and Western Grey Kangaroos may be seen grazing upon the plains.
Accommodation is available at the rustic bush retreat of Mack Creek Hut - an ideal base for bushwalkers or nature lovers seeking a weekend escape close to the city. Bookings are essential.
