See how the miners of Moranbah work by taking a free tour through the massive Peak Downs Open Cut Mine. The mine was developed in the early 1970s and has a production capacity of nine million tonnes of coking coal per year! On tour, you will marvel at the sheer size and scale of the operation and equipment used while learning about the vitality of this world-class industry from local experts.
Tours operate the second Wednesday of every month to the Peak Downs Mine. To book, simply call the Isaac Regional Council, Moranbah Office. You will be required to arrive 15 minutes early to depart from the Council Building at 9.30 a.m. Be sure to pack some morning tea as tours don’t return until 12.30 p.m. - 1.00 p.m. An experience that is sure to invigorate your senses!
Moranbah is part of the Mining Trail drive and brochures can be picked up from Visitor Information Centres in the region.
