In the village of Penola, just down from the Mary McKillop Centre, is the magical and colourful kingdom of Penolaraya. Since opening in 2009, the kingdom has gained a reputation as the only fantasy model railway of its type in Australia, according to numerous model railway enthusiasts.
A journey into the kingdom starts as visitors pass into Rose’s Tearoom, which adjoins the building which houses the model railway. Castles are positioned throughout the kingdom, and interactive train experiences are available.
Outside, guests can visit the Water Garden kingdom with its creeks, waterfalls, crystal clear pond, and Gnomeville, with its castles and trains.
