Porongurup National Park

National Parks and Reserves

The Porongurup National Park, within the Mount Barker sub-region of The Amazing South Coast, overflows with local flora and fauna and offers excellent bushwalking with stunning panoramic views of the surrounding plain.

Home to the amazing Castle Rock Granite Skywalk, a walking gantry mounted high out from the magnificent Castle Rock affording breathtaking views in all directions.

The park is one of the best places in the south for wildflowers – visit during spring and early summer for colourful displays of Bluebells, Wattles, Hoveas, Banksia, Dryandras, Hakeas, Grevilleas and Orchids. There are more than 750 species of plants in the park and perhaps the most spectacular are the forests of Karri trees.

The ancient granite domes that rise 670 metres into the air are popular with rock climbers, while birdwatchers flock to see brilliantly coloured scarlet and yellow robins as well as rufous treecreepers. You might also spot western grey kangaroos and brush wallabies.

Porongurup National Park is only a 3.5-hour drive from Perth or around 40 minutes from Albany or Denmark.
