Steels Creek Estate was established in 1981. The vineyard is situated in the picturesque Steels Creek Valley, part of the Yarra Valley wine region, with sweeping views towards Mount Slide and the Kinglake National Park.
Steels Creek is a small winery sourcing fruit from only just under two hectares of vines. Despite their size, all wines are made on site following the completion of a dedicated barrel room facility.
The Cabernet Sauvignon has been a successful wine, even in 1996 which was a difficult year to ripen the grapes. A spicy and peppery Shiraz is gaining popularity together with the Co Lombard which is a unique varietal for the Yarra Valley.
There is an abundance of wildlife' contributing to the overall charm of the location. Visitors to the winery are warmly welcomed and can view the operations from the tasting area.
'The drive to the cellar door of Steels Creek takes you through some gorgeous Australian country and is worth the effort. Once there, immaculately tended vines and a cellar door to match will greet you, with owner Simon Peirce on hand to show you the only commercially released Colombard to be found in the Yarra Valley. The reds are dense and serious with plenty of savoury, earthy characters, and the structure to suggest the ability to age.' Ben Edwards.
