The Amphitheatre is an exquisite place that is a favourite of many Jatbula Trail trekkers. It is located 25 kilometres from Katherine Gorge (Nitmiluk) and is found on the second day of this iconic four to five day bush walking trail. The Jatbula Trail is a 58 kilometre one way trek starting at the Nitmiluk Visitors Centre and finishing at Leliyn / Edith Falls.
A short and steep set of steps descend into a U-shaped gorge known as The Amphitheatre. Here you'll find a pocket on monsoon rainforest that is a welcome change from the rugged country already traversed. You will feel as if you have entered an enchanted world with green moss covered boulders surrounding crystal clear rock pools.
There is Aboriginal rock art on The Amphitheatre's walls and it is easy to imaging the stories and lessons told here through many generations of Jawoyn and Dagoman people.
Walkers must register at the Nitmiluk Visitor Centre and report your arrival to the Kiosk at Leliyn / Edith Falls. A refundable AUD50.00 deposit is required and will be returned at Leliyn / Edith Falls. A camping fee of AUD3.30 per person per night and will be collected when you register.
