Turtle Nesting Season

Natural Attractions

The Ningaloo Coast is one of the world’s major breeding areas for sea turtles. During the breeding season between December and March, Green and Loggerhead turtles make their way up the beaches to lay their eggs.

Night tours provide the opportunity to watch the turtles make their long arduous journey up the beaches to lay their eggs. Six weeks after laying, the hatchlings scramble down to the water’s edge, usually around dusk, dawn or through the night.

The nearby Jurabi Turtle Centre on Yardie Creek Road offers 24 hour information on the turtle species on Ningaloo, and is also the staging point for turtle watching tours.

The best beaches to view sea turtles laying and hatching are from Hunters Access down to Wobiri Access, roughly 18 kilometres from Exmouth.
