Due to the removal of an unsafe bridge this road is currently not a through road between Orford and the Tasman Peninsula. Access is available to most points of interest either from the south or the north, depending on which side of the removed bridge you are wishing to visit. Contact the Tasmanian Visitor Information Centre at Triabunna, 03 6257 4772, for further details.
An interesting and scenic alternative route between the east coast and the Tasman Peninsula, this 35 km drive links Orford with Bream Creek and Copping, taking a good gravel forestry road through tall eucalypt production forests and passing the Sandspit Forest Reserve on the Sandspit River, with its pockets of relict rainforest. Enjoy a picnic at the Thumbs Lookout just south of Orford or the Sandspit Forest Reserve. There are several lookout points with spectacular views of the coast, islands and ocean. Roadside signage explains how the areas working forests are being managed.
