Don't miss the excitement when Ballarat celebrates its motor racing heritage.
Thousands of vehicle lovers with their cars and motorcycles are expected to flock to the city to be part of a spectacular 9 day historic sports car, racing car and motorcycle celebration of the city's golden age of motor sport at the Ballarat Festival of Motoring.
It has been 50 years since Ballarat saw its last bitumen circuit motor race, "The International Victorian Trophy Motor Race", at the Ballarat airfield that featured International Formula 1 cars and drivers from the United Kingdom including the Cooper and BRM factory teams.
Few people today realise that Ballarat Airport was a major circuit from 1947 until 1961 with a reputation for hosting some of the best car and motorcycle racing of the day.
Highlights of the Festival will include standing start 400 metre timed sprints and parades of historic racing and sports cars around the majority of the original 1940 - 60's airfield based circuit, with up to 100 cars taking part.
