Fence Jumping

If you haven’t jumped the fence to Launceston in recent times you may be unaware the positive impact Sawtooth ARI is having on the local and interstate arts scene.

Sawtooth is an Artist Run Initiative based in Launceston, showcasing an annual exhibition program, which features contemporary and experimental art by local, intrastate and national artists at various stages of their professional career.

According to Director Fernando do Campo Sawtooth ARI “aims to foster dialogue, promote excellence and provide a forum platform for engagement and discussion around ideas and contemporary visual arts practice.”

Fence Jumping is the first group exhibition in Hobart of the artists involved with Sawtooth ARI and it’s an opportunity for new audiences to view the professional and dynamic quality of contemporary art currently thriving in Northern Tasmania.

This exhibition questions ideas of location and our relationship to barriers (visible or invisible) within these spaces. The work exhibited discusses notions of landscape, place and social geography within the Tasmanian model.

Fence Jumping includes the work by Fernando do Campo, Liam James, Kate Kirby, Matt Prince, Amelia Rowe, Troy Ruffels, Mel de Ruyter and Fred Showell.

The exhibition is coordinated by Fernando do Campo, Troy Ruffels and Catherine Wolfhagen.
