Arts, Kites & Markets 2008 - 3rd Annual Kite Festival at Marulan
Friday 19th to Sunday 21st September 2008
Kids’ Art Flying High - all Weekend
Artists working with schools in workshops held around the Southern Tablelands area will create two or three dimensional works made entirely from reverse garbage and recycled and found items. Their brief is wide - anything images evoked by kite flying - and that includes fresh air, flight, blue skies, wind, speed, colour, movement, open spaces, and more.
These works will go on display during the Kite Festival, starting with the opening night on Friday 19th September 2008.
Kids’ Art Flying High has been funded by Regional Arts NSW with assistance from Southern Tablelands Arts.
Photographic Exhibition - all Weekend
Me and My Pet is the theme for this competition and exhibition. There will be sections for children, youth and adults with some great prizes in the offing. All entries will be on display as part of the Kite Festival’s Art Exhibition at Marulan Hall from Friday 19th until Sunday 21st September. More details will be available from July.
Art Exhibition - all Weekend
The art exhibition is open to all artists, whether you are a seasoned professional, budding new talent or just an amateur. A small token entry fee will be charged to assist in defraying costs. All works are welcome and prizes are being negotiated with sponsors.
The art exhibition will be complemented by a photographic exhibition and Kids’ Art Flying High - a creative art project for primary school children
Workshops - Saturday 20th September
If you think you’d like to try your hand at something artful or crafty, set aside a couple of hours on Saturday 20th September and come along to the Marulan Hall. There will be two-hour workshops in a range of different painting styles as well as different crafts such as card making and beading.
Markets - Sunday 21st September
For gifts, craft items, fresh produce, and all things nice, a hundred market stalls on Sunday 21st September will line the main street in the centre of town. Get your Christmas shopping done early, buy birthday presents for your family and friends and stock up on the very best fresh fruit and veggies the farmers can produce.
…and then Come Fly a Kite - Sunday 21st September
And to top off the day, have some great fun flying a kite! If you don’t own one, you can buy one on the day or make one yourself at the kite making workshop - it only takes a few minutes and you will be up, up and away!
There’s something really magical and exhilarating about flying kites. Come on, join in and have a fantastic family day out at Marulan!
