Scone and Upper Hunter Horse Festival
The Horse Capital of Australia comes alive each May, celebrating the horse in its very own festival. It begins with a street parade, followed by a jam packed two weeks of thoroughbred sales, art shows, rodeos, country fairs, family fun days, fireworks, campdrafts and concludes with the Scone Cup Race carnival.
Nestled in the Upper Hunter Valley, Scone is home to more than 65 horse studs breeding millions of dollars worth of foals every year. Scone also boasts the headquarters of the Australian Stock Horse Society, a racecourse equal to any in the big cities, an equine research centre, a TAFE campus specialising in rural and equine studies and Olympic quality polo grounds.
