Singleton Prime Stock Competition
Thursday 18th September sees producers and schools exhibiting their beef cattle. Today's the day where months of hard work selecting and preparing their cattle for show might pay off in a shape of a ribbon or trophy. The stock are judged 'on the hoof' - assessed on conformation, type and potential for the market.
The students are then judged on their performance as cattle handlers, leading their stock around the ring under the watchful eye of an industry expert. Being a top junior cattle handler takes months of practice and lots of hard work grooming and presenting a clean, well trained animal.
Saturday 20th September the cattle are processed and judged to suit the market classification such as supermarket, local trade and domestic markets.
