Booligal Sheep Races
A Great Fun Family Day out! Relax on the green lawn of the Booligal Cricket ground, enjoy the barbecue and the thrill of racing your sheep. Great prizes through out the day.
The day kicks off with the Best Decorated Sheep Judging and then the races begin. Don’t worry if your sheep is not a finalist there is a chance to buy a sheep in a heat in the sheep auction in the middle of the day. Get a syndicate together and your sheep could be the winner of the Booligal Cup! 2008 and winner was! Some friends got together and bought their sheep at the auction and he went onto win the Cup and the prize money. A great event to get involved in as all proceeds go to local charities.

Sheep Racing is obviously a very tricky business. If it wasn't, everyone would be organising it. Sheep, as we all know, are loyal, flocking, shepherd - following creatures, and have inspired whole breeds of Sheep Dogs, and their resulting Sheep-Dog trial events, so it is only appropriate that sheep have an event of their own in which to star.
Sheep, do occasionally gallop a little in the open paddocks, but organised racing is another thing altogether. Being much smaller than horses, they cannot comfortably carry a jockey, for starters, so are not required to in this form of racing. Instead they are piloted by instinct and the collective urgings and encouragement of their handlers. So come along and enjoy the day!
