Bell Shakespeare Company Season 2008

Three visionary directors. Three levels of earthly experience: community, family, self. In 2008, Bell Shakespeare takes three bold directions into the worlds within our world.

John Bell, Marion Potts and Michael Gow spearhead a season of stories that speak as much of the backyard or next door as the world beyond. In ever-changing circles of family, community and the wider political context, follow our journey as fears, ferocity and follies take centre stage under the deft hands of three of Australian theatre’s best directors.

As You Like It maps a journey through urban urgings as Bell Shakespeare’s Artistic Director, John Bell, explores the individual in community and our desire to escape the slings and arrows of everyday life for a lighter, more romantic place.

Then, Marion Potts focuses her daring, deeply thoughtful style on themes of family, life and death, directing Hamlet with Brendan Cowell in the title role and Barry Otto as Polonius.

And in a joint production with the Queensland Theatre Company, award-winning director Michael Gow directs John Bell in the lead role of Heiner Müller’s Anatomy Titus Fall of Rome – a story of politics becoming very personal, a provocative adaptation of Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus.

In 2008, take a bold direction, explore your worlds with Bell Shakespeare.
