Children's Literature in the Centre Festival

A festival for children to come and listen to stories read by some of Australia’s best storytellers.

The inaugural Children's Literature in the Centre Festival will provide children, young people and the wider community of Alice Springs with a rare and exciting opportunity to meet, listen to and learn from some outstanding Australian children's authors, illustrators and storytellers. The talented presenters will conduct workshops for school groups on the Thursday and Friday, while on the weekend the public will be able to participate in this lively community literature event. An extra special festival feature will be a fascinating and informative exhibition of the original illustrations and the developmental and visual resource material fro Alison Lester's much-loved picture book, ‘Are We There Yet’.

Alison Lester, Leigh Hobbs, Janeen Brian, Hazel Edwards and Phil Kettle are just a few of the interstate presenters taking part in this festival. Joining them are local presenters Lizzie Ellis – indigenous storyteller, Ted Egan, Kaye Kessing, Jenny Taylor, Pamela Lofts and Rosanne Fuller.
