Discovering Tropical Birds Program

The Top End’s unique flora and fauna awaits your discovery.

This six day program combines study and travel to provide traveller’s to the Northern Territory and bird enthusiasts alike, the opportunity to experience and learn more about birds and other wildlife of the monsoon tropics. The Top End is a birdwatcher’s paradise, boasting almost half of the bird species found in Australia and many that occur only in the tropics.

Magpie Geese and other waterbirds congregate in their thousands on shrinking billabongs as they wait for the first rains of the tropical season to fall. You’ll see several species of finches found only in the tropical savannas, including the Gouldian Finch, widely acclaimed as one of the most colourful birds in the world.

The Discovering Tropical Birds program is conducted by Dr Richard Noske, Senior Lecturer-Biology at Charles Darwin University (CDU).

The program will be held twice in 2008 - July and October. A separate two day package is also available.
