Railway Heritage Picnic Day

Join in the fun and discover the heritage of Adelaide River.

Come along and take part in a traditional railway picnic held at the Adelaide River Railway Heritage Precinct in the Adelaide River township, south of Darwin. 'Picnic Day' was originally declared a public holiday so that railway employees could go to Adelaide River to enjoy a picnic. Have fun with games such as tug-o-war, sack and three-legged races, egg and spoon races and much more. Walk around and explore the lily-studded reservoir, or discover the historical exhibits in the Sidney Williams Exhibition Hall. Enjoy traditional railway food and refreshments served in the refreshment rooms.
