Queensland Week - Get Into It
Queensland Week gives us a chance to reflect on what makes us proud to be Queenslanders. Whether it's a historic victory of one of our great sporting teams, a perfect break at one of our pristine beaches, laughter shared at a backyard barbecue, or our laid back and relaxed lifestyle, there are plenty of reasons for us to be proud about our State and being Queenslanders!
Queensland Week celebrates the State's people and places, through a range of diverse activities involving the young and the old, the business community, families and multicultural and community groups throughout Queensland. The week derived from the celebration of Queensland Day, which is held each year on 6 June to commemorate the day Queensland separated from the colony of New South Wales.
2008 Queensland Week 1-8 June is upon us with a range of diverse activities and events held across the state to celebrate all that is great about Queensland.
A highlight of the Queensland Week Celebrations will be the Suncorp Queenslander and Young Queenslander of the Year Awards, Queensland Great Awards, Citizenship Ceremony, Queens Park Barbecue, Movie Marathon and will end with the RACQ Big Barbecue. The Big Barbecue will feature an exciting program of free family entertainment including Dorothy the Dinosaur's Dance Party, Boogie Woogies Superhero Band, various dance workshops, yoga, roving performances, face painting, giveaways and a sausage sizzle!
