Australian Bush Poetry Championships
There was movement at the station for the word had passed around, that the Australian Bush Poetry Championships was soon coming to town! Made famous by Banjo Paterson and Henry Lawson in the late 1800s, Australian bush poetry will once again take centre stage, but this time with a modern twist, at the Australian Bush Poetry Championships to be held in Brisbane.
From Friday 22 August to Sunday 24 August, music and poetry lovers alike will be entertained by the cheeky, patriotic and humorous musical stories inspired by the Australian way of life.
Over the weekend, budding poets from across Australia will compete in written and performance-based poetry competitions for a hand in over AUD7,000 worth of prices. The Gala Concert on Saturday night will feature special performances by some of Australia's leading bush poets, including Garry Lowe, Milton Taylor, Melanie Hall and Noel Stallard.
Australian Bush Poetry is poetry with rhyming verse and regular metre that is written about the Australian way of life, inspired by both rural colonial and modern times.
