Holden Maryborough Technology Challenge
Thrills spills and the technological skills of Queensland’s youth are brilliantly showcased each September when the Holden Maryborough Technology Challenge hits the inner-city streets of Maryborough.
The feature event is the 24-hour non-stop Human Powered Vehicle Championship. Students pedal their aerodynamically designed machines at blistering speeds around an inner-city track that now includes a thrill raising hairpin bend.
Solar boats and cars, robotics, and smilie push carts are popular categories in the Challenge along with miniature carbon dioxide powered dragsters which are raced for a Queensland Championship and a trans-Tasman trophy against New Zealand.
The recent inclusion of the Grand Prix Cycling Series has thrilled organisers and spectators alike. More than 60 A-grade riders from throughout Australia race around the historic street circuit adding an exciting new facet to the event.
