Mitjilis Trees - NAIDOC Art Exhibition

Mitjili’s Trees – NAIDOC Art Exhibition, curated by Sandra Conte for Chancellor State College Middle Campus, Administration Building Upstairs corridor.

NAIDOC event to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, by acknowledging the iconic Mitjili Napurrula through her work.

Mitjili is one of Australia's most iconic and collected artists. Mitjili is from the Haasts Bluff Region 200 kilometres west of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. Her language is Luritja/Pintubi. She was born around 1945 in a family of artists. Her strong and distinctive style depicts her Father's Tjukurrpa or dreaming story taught to her by her mother. It is the trees of her father's country from which the men made wooden spears for hunting. The tree motif emerges from a diluted veil using the dot-dot technique giving the impression of solid colour.
