Run For A Cure
Run For A Cure is a Fun Run and Walk to raise funds for the Cancer Council Queensland. It is open to everyone in the community, of any age and ability - families, students, and athletes. There are three distances - 2.5 kilometres, five kilometres and 10 kilometres, the latter being a more competitive run. The course follows the picturesque Bicentennial Walkway, starting and finishing in the Airlie Beach foreshore park.
The event originated in Canada in commemoration of Terry Fox who lost his life to cancer whilst attempting to run across Canada, some 25 years ago. The event now takes part around the world. Entrants are encouraged to raise funds by asking for pledges or donations, in addition to the registration fee. Highest fundraiser receives a trophy. All funds raised go to cancer research, early detection programs and patient support. The event concludes with random draw prizes donated by the local community. All ages are welcome including babies, with the registration being individual, family, business or club.
