Hampers, Eskies and Ants
You can almost smell the sausages sizzling in the latest display at the Unley Museum. Hampers, Eskies and Ants conjures up the picnics of the past with great objects, photographs and stories. Check out the 1950s Coca-cola cooler, the 1940s thermos and the vibrant collection of coloured plastic picnic ware.
Discover the changes in the way we brewed the all important cuppa from the classic billy to the neat spirit kettles. Remember how food always tasted better outdoors despite the sand in the sandwiches and the battle to keep the flies off the food. There was nothing better than a charred chop or sausage wrapped in a piece of white bread with lashings of tomato sauce.
