History Week at Reynella Changing Station
Reynella Changing Station has been lovingly restored by local volunteers. Work is still in progress on the adjacent cottage which will be named "Alexander Cottage" at a special "naming event" on Sunday 25 May 2008. The Changing Station contains an abundance of historic memorabilia, many interesting photographs of the township, surrounding area and the coaches and horses.
A local Bush Band will be playing from 11.30am to 12.30pm and from 12.45pm to1.45pm. There will be a sausage sizzle from noon and soft drinks will be available for sale. There will be afternoon tea and hot drinks available for sale from 2.45pm and from 12pm to 3pm there will be free pony rides for primary school age children.
The Horse Changing Station will be open for tours and this includes a museum of local artefacts and photos. Pamphlets are available of the historic walks in Old Reynella, which specify where the historic buildings are to be found in the historical town.
The Minister for the Southern Suburbs, John Hill, the Mayor of Onkaparinga, a local historian and Kris Hanna MP will be speaking at 1.45pm on the topic of Old Reynella’s place in the Fleurieu and in the history of South Australia. A plaque naming the Alexander Cottage will be unveiled.
