International Museum Day at Highercombe Hotel Museum 2008
The Highercombe Hotel, a prominent landmark in the historic township of Tea Tree Gully, was opened in 1854. The building has served as a hotel, a post office, community meeting room, teacher’s and post master’s residence and school room. Since 1967 it has been operated by the Tea Tree Gully Branch of the National Trust of South Australia as a museum, providing visitors - young and old - with a taste of life in the pioneer days of our community.
We welcome visitors to explore the building consisting of twelve rooms displaying the domestic lifestyle of yesteryear. A large range of memorabilia encompasses furniture, clothing, entertainment, cooking and photographs.
Take a wander through the outdoor sheds displaying hand tools, farming implements, and non-motorised machinery and transport, a selection of wash house objects and dairy items. Take a tantalizing glimpse into the lives of the early settlers of the district.
Set amongst beautifully kept gardens, a visit is well worthwhile. Browse in our Gift Shop for a unique souvenir.
