Merchant Navy Day March

Serving and former Merchant Navy personnel, families and school students will march along Commercial Road from Port Adelaide Visitor Information Centre to Black Diamond Square and along Queens Wharf.

At the corner of Queens Wharf and Timpson Street the march will end for a special service at the newly located The Navigator memorial by sculptor Karen Genoff.

The Navigator is for all seafarers, but particularly the crew and passengers of the SS Admella, which sank off the South Australian, coast 150 years ago.

The loss of 89 lives, mostly due to cold and exposure, makes the wreck one of the worst maritime disasters in Australian history. Port Chaplain Robin Trebilcock will conduct a Merchant Navy Day service at The Navigator.

After the service a barbecue will be held on Queens Wharf for all those who participate.
