'I Remember' Concert
The Returned and Services League (RSL) South Australian Branch will hold a concert to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the end of World War One in a lead up to Remembrance Day on Saturday 8 November 2008.
Festivities start at 1.15pm with the Adelaide Pipe Band (sponsored by the Adelaide City Council) performing on the promenade area of the Drill Hall, Torrens Parade Ground. They will also perform after the main concert has ended.
The main concert features performances by the Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus, a choir of 80 voices directed by Aldis Sils and the Band of the 10'27th Battalion, Royal South Australia Regiment under the direction of Warrant Officer Ian Boath. To assist with the performance the audience will also be invited to join in with a sing-a-long.
The dramatic production of 'I Remember' written by Victor N Marden will be directed by Kevin Miller OAM. 'I Remember' is a half hour action scene, which takes place on a battlefield in France during 1917 and is based on a story of two sweethearts. Through a misunderstanding and with the outbreak of war the two sweethearts part company.
Joe Jo' (the young man) joins the army and is sent to fight in France. He is seriously wounded. The nurse that attends him is Gertie his sweetheart. 'I Remember' will be performed by the band, the choir and solo artists.
The concert aims to entertain serving military personnel, ex-service personnel, descendants of World War One service persons their family and friends.
A display of appropriate military uniforms, weapons and accoutrements will be on display in the Memorial Hall.
The South Australian History Trust will also open its exhibition 'Blue Jeans and Jungle Greens' featuring civilian and military clothing and the political atmosphere during the 1960s and 1970s.
Tea and coffee will be available from a mobile caterer. Patrons can enjoy a "cuppa" while listening to the Adelaide Pipe Band prior to attending the main concert, starting at 2pm.
