Strathalbyn Collectors, Hobbies and Antique Fair

The 18th Strathalbyn Collectors, Hobbies and Antique Fair is on 16 to 17 August 2008. Held annually on the third weekend in August this fair is an initiative of the Strathalbyn and Lakes Tourist Association Inc (SLTA). With quality antiques, crafts and memorabilia this fair attracts antique dealers and visitors from around Australia.

Held in various venues around the town, visitors can take advantage of the complimentary shuttle bus service to get around. The halls, which will be filled to capacity this year include:
Town Hall.
Uniting Church Hall.
School Gymnasium.
Bowling Club.
Lutheran Church Hall.

A special feature this year is an auction, which will be held on Saturday in the RSL Hall.

Featuring a town crier, live entertainment and displays this event is a must for anyone interested in antiques, crafts and collectables. Antique appraisals will be available at AUD3.00 per item in the Town Hall Band Room conducted by Small and Whitfield. There will be displays from Basketry SA, Spinners and Weavers, Lacemakers, Quilters, Strathalbyn Museum, Motor Restorers, Strathalbyn Floral Society and many more.

On Sunday 17 August in conjunction with the Antique Fair there will be an Open Air Treasure Market. This market, held at the sports oval will feature collectables, old wares, ceramics, bric-a-brac, plants as well as produce.

The Association was pleased to receive 'Community Event of the Year' in Strathalbyn this Australia Day for the 2007 fair. The SLTA is a non-profit organization, which has been running for 25 years and has a long history of supporting local clubs and organizations. Profits from the Antique Fair are donated to community groups that assist with the running of this large event.

With more than 3000 people attending last year the Strathalbyn community are preparing for another great event in 2008.
