Geltwood Craft Festival 2009
Millicent has a huge week of excitement and entertainment with its annual Geltwood Craft Festival held 28 March to 5 April 2009. This festival is a celebration and an acknowledgement of the quilt making and of the artisans and artists within the area.
During the week of the festival, local businesses will have a wide range of arts, crafts and quilting displayed in their shop windows or within their premises. Meander along George Street and Davenport Street to enjoy the displays or to take time out to enjoy the shops and browse. There will be workshops, craft displays, demonstrations, exhibitions and a market day. The Millicent Country Market Day takes place on Sunday 29 March 2009 and showcases a large variety of stalls available to peruse, with plenty to enjoy and purchase.
The official opening of the festival with a Gala Evening is held on Friday 27 March 2009, at the Millicent Gallery.
New to this year's programme is the Kanawinka Quilt Challenge: Prizes will be given to the best Quilt challenger. Please log onto www.wattlerange.sa.gov.au for more information or contact Bankhouse Quilts, Millicent on 08 87331011. Entries close on 24 March 2009.
The Tall Timbers Exhibition will be held at the Millicent Visitor Information Centre from 27 March to 20 May 2009. This is an outstanding exhibition of woodworking predominantly featuring pine and red gum timbers. Take time out to experience this fine craftsmanship. People's choice during festival week - don't forget to vote! Each of the Category Winners will be announced and a number of selected woodwork entries available for purchase.
It's a fantastic week with people coming from afar to enjoy this great experience and there is something for everyone. We have so many talented people in this region and this is a great opportunity to come and share their love for their craft.
