Riverland Balloon Fiesta 2008
On the June long weekend of 2008 Renmark will again host the very successful and expanding Riverland Balloon Fiesta. Since the initiative seven years ago the event has proven to be a huge success year after year. Hot Air Balloon flights and demonstrations are an amazing experience for all ages. Another huge draw card for this spectacular event is the hot air balloon night glow, where at night, the balloons are tethered and inflated and create a magnificent photo opportunity.
The balloon pilots, their families and crews are always excited and enthusiastic to be involved in the event and to see the Fiesta grow. The pilots have once again offered to demonstrate how hot air balloons are packed for transport, unfurled and repacked and how the burner functions. They will also be available to answer questions and discuss all aspects of ballooning. Participation by the balloonists and their crews enhances the link between hot air ballooning, as a mainly spectators orientated event, and a weekend of activity for families and the community.
Australia’s third best Pilot has registered to take part in the 2008 Riverland Balloon Fiesta, with a further 18 pilots also taking part. The continued success of the event keeps the pilots returning each year and also attracting new balloonists. The pilots through their own networks have been excellent ambassadors for the Fiesta.
The hot air balloons will be launched from Oval 2, the local Remark hockey field, twice a day, and the community is invited and encouraged to spectate. Commercial flights will also be available to the courageous and those who wish to take in some spectacular and unique views of the mighty Murray River and the Riverland.
Weather conditions and wind speeds determine the best location for the launch of the hot air balloons; therefore several alternative launch sites across the region will be agreed by the Chief Pilot. These are presented to the pilots during briefings prior to launch.
