170th Anniversary of the Mount Bryan Expedition Commemoration Fair
The 170th Mount Bryan Commemoration Fair will be held at the picturesque riverfront reserve at Morgan on the banks of the Murray River. Governor Gawler and Captain Sturt, arrived at the Great Bend in Morgan 170 years ago on their expedition down the Murray from Currency Creek. One of their party was a young man ‘Henry Bryan’. On arrival in Morgan, the expedition went on land to discover Mount Bryan and later split into two groups with Bryan and Gawler travelling back to base camp.
A dust storm brewed with Bryan and Gawler splitting. Henry Bryan was never seen again and to this day a death certificate has never been issued. The disappearance of Henry Bryan is an intriguing and mysterious story. The expedition will be re-enacted on December 12. The South Australian Navy Band will be the feature entertainment and food and craft stalls and amusements will be offered.
