Riverland Paddling Marathon
The Riverland Paddling Marathon incorporates the SA Murray 200, the SA Murray 100, the SA Murray Relay Challenge and the inaugural 10-kilometre Waikerie Mini Marathon. The event is organised by The Marathon Canoe Club of South Australia.
The Murray 200 is one of the great marathon paddling events in Australia and South Australia’s premier marathon paddling event. The Murray River is Australia’s longest river that winds from Berri to Morgan Wharf along the Murray River in South Australia over the three days. This event includes three portages, one each day.
The SA Murray 100 is run in conjunction with the SA Murray 200, and is designed for the person who likes a touring challenge. The shorter distance gives plenty of time to complete the course and still enjoy the scenery. The event is run on the same course as the 200, but is started approximately 30 kilometres from the 200 finish line each day.
The Relay Challenge is for people who wish to paddle shorter distances, but paddle as a team for the full 200-kilometre course. This is a great event for schools, clubs or community youth groups that provides both individual challenge and a sense of teamwork. Each relay team consists of four to six canoeists in one or more double kayaks/canoes, or two to three paddlers for a single craft. Each paddler (or pair of paddlers) will complete a section of the Murray 200 course. At each check point the team changes paddlers.
Waikerie Mini Marathon: This 10 kilometre entry-level marathon for juniors and novices will take place on the Sunday of the June long weekend starting from Holders Landing and finishing with the main race at Waikerie.
