The Hydro Tasmania Three Peaks Race is a four day non-stop 335 nautical mile sailing race around Tasmania's East Coast with teams of two runners going ashore for 133 kilometres of running scaling three rugged mountain peaks.
The race commences at Beauty Point on the Tamar River just north of Launceston and finishes in Hobart on the Derwent River. En-route, teams have to scale Mt Strzelecki, Mt Freycinet and Mt Wellington.
The timetable for the Three Peaks Race is as follows:
Good Friday
On Good Friday morning at Beauty Point the wharf activities begin with a variety of entertainment and a fine selection of Tamar Valley food stalls presenting local dishes of fine food. Live radio broadcasts occur from wharf throughout the day with interviews of key competitors and celebrities.
The race starts with teams sailing on first leg to Flinders Island.
Easter Saturday
During the day, commencing in the early hours, the race fleet is expected at Lady Barron, Flinders Island.
By afternoon most of the runners will have completed the first run to the summit of Mt Strzelecki and return. The yachts will then leave for Coles Bay. The last team is expected to have departed Lady Barron by midnight..
Easter Sunday
The first of the race fleet can be expected in Coles Bay from noon onwards.
After completing the run over Mt Freycinet, the first teams will be departing for Hobart in the late afternoon.
Watch the action at the Coles Bay jetty, the arrival and departure point for yachts and runners. Join the many onlookers and cheer the teams on.
All teams are expected to have departed Coles Bay by evening or early Monday morning.
Easter Monday
The Kings Pier at Sullivans Cove in Hobart is the next and last control point where yachts are timed in and runners sent on their final climb, the 33 kilometre run to the summit of Mt Wellington.
See the runners have their final kit check and setting off on this run. Cheer them back in about two to three hours later, the winner expecting to finish from mid morning onwards.
