Benchmarking Birch's Bay

Outdoor sculpture trail at Fleurtys Cafe, Farm and Forest Walks
Reflect on the telescoping of time as you experience it and as it influences your surroundings.
This year Kingborough Municipality marks its 100th year - both a considerable period for the human span, and the merest moment for the landscape.
'BackStories' invites artists to reflect on the telescoping of time as we
experience it and as it influences our surroundings. How did the landscape 'work' before there was any human presence......before European arrival.... before cars.....before the internet....
Changes wrought by human agency acquire a dizzying pace. The impulse and the capacity to remake our surroundings accelerate - perhaps at our peril.
BackStories engages visitors with this narrative, and draws them into the landscape and invite recollection of slower, more organic changes, both
natural and human.
The sculptures are displayed over a trail that winds through native bush and farm land with stunning views of Mt. Wellington and the D'entrecasteaux Channel.
