Wilderness Art Making Weekend
Bendoc is located in north East Gippsland. Surrounded by National Parks it is ideally placed for this event.
The tutor for the weekend will be Debra Goldsmith. Debra is a well known and collected painter, who has studied and produced paintings in this emerging genre of Wilderness Art , (2003 Australian Country Style, September issue and 2003 Sun Herald Home Magazine, June 14th).
During the weekend workshop, field trips to wilderness areas will provide opportunities to understand this environment through seeing, feeling, observing and hearing. From these field trips, information will be gathered in the form of digital sketching, painting, photography, recordings etc. This information can then be used to produce work that enables the workshop participants to explore the significance of the wilderness environment and their own personal relationship to it. Looking below the surface of what can be viewed as simply a pictorial landscape enables us to understand our relationship with the land and nature.
We hope to provide challenges to the participants in the way they think and see the wilderness, and inspire them to continue this exploration further.
