Playing with Words Festival
The Playing with Words Festival is the 5th annual celebration of the written word that occurs in and around the West Gippsland townships of Warragul and Yarragon. It is a week of activities and events.
The first is the fabulous Book Fair in the Yarragon Village on July 12 and 13. The Yarragon Hall will be full to the brim with books, be they rare and unusual or just a great bargain! Free book appraisals are available for your own treasures by experienced book dealers.
The next event is a Literary Luncheon held at the Elizabethian Restaurant in Warragul on Tuesday 15 July. Well known cartoonist mark Knight is the speaker and he promises to b a interesting listen.
Poetry will be a feature at the Warragul Library on Thursday 17 July with a guest appearance from young poet Dwane Hawkes, successful at the recent Melbourne Poetry Slam.
The finale to the week is a full day of speakers and activities on Sunday 20 July at Education Centre Gippsland, McMillan Campus Warragul. There will be keynote speakers including a children's writer and a travel writer from Lonely Planet, a forum on self publishing and then afternoon workshops on calligraphy, book making, editing and more!
Right throughout the festival week the Warragul Library will offer "Living Books".....a fun concept where you loan your selected "book" (person) for half an hour and have the opportunity to enjoy a free coffee at a local cafe whilst finding out more about their "story" (life). There will be a wealth of interesting stories to be told!
