Pomonal Flower Show
WHAT S IN A NAME?
POMONAL NATIVE FLOWER SHOW
Have you ever wondered how our native plants got their names? Have you ever been overwhelmed by the scientific jargon?
The Australian Plants Society Grampians Group 2008 annual flower show will help to remove the mystery.
Along with a brief history of scientific plant names, and a slide show, this year many of the plants on display will have their names explained to you.
Did you know that Grevilleas were named after Mr C.F Greville [1749-1809]?
Do you know why Cryptandra means hidden man?
How can Telopea mean easily seen from a distance?
And how does Macropidia relate to Kangaroo paws?
All this and more
An amazing display of Australian flowers all grown in members gardens, plants suitable for our increasingly dry conditions, plants suitable for pots, thousands of plants, cut flowers, art/craft and books for sale. Also refreshments, wine tasting and a Village Market over the road.
