Skandia Geelong Week
See yachts set sail and celebrate all things nautical at Australia's largest sailing regatta.
More than a yachting event, Skandia Geelong Week is the Melbourne Cup of the sailing world. More than 100,000 visitors will head to the Geelong Waterfront for the free three-day shoreside program featuring more than 60 live performances on two waterfront stages, art exhibitions, aerobatic displays, fireworks, gourmet food and wine, children's entertainment and activities, a marine trade show and art and craft markets.
The Skandia Docklands Invitational is held as part of Skandia Geelong Week the weekend prior to Australia Day with entertainment, activities and fireworks at Docklands, Melbourne.
Free to the general public is the Skandia "learn to sail" program for all age groups, Docklands Saturday January 17th & Sunday January 18th and Geelong Waterfront Saturday January 24th, Sunday January 25th and Monday January 26th 2008. Details to be confirmed.
Skandia Geelong Week is widely acknowledged as Australia's largest sailing event. First held in 1844, it is Victoria's oldest sporting event and attracts more than 400 yachts and 4000 sailors.
Having developed a sister relationship with the world's largest sailing regatta, Skandia Cowes Week in the United Kingdom, the regatta is set to become one of the world's leading yachting events.
