Durif of Rutherglen
Join us for the Durif of Rutherglen centenary weekend 2-3 August celebrating 100 years of this legendary red wine in Rutherglen.
Durif, a rare French grape variety, was introduced to Rutherglen in 1908 by the eminent Australian viticulturalist Francois de Castella. The move was a master stroke the soils, the climate and the skills of the winemakers were a winning combination that ensured the variety flourished in its new home.
On Saturday night 2 August enjoy a 7 course degustation Black Tie Dinner featuring 9 sparkling, table and fortified Durif wines plus other wines. 6.30pm 11.00pm, in the Great Hall at All Saints Estate. $160 per person includes coach transfers to/from accommodation in Rutherglen, Wahgunyah and Corowa townships. Special guest Will de Castella, descendant of Francois de Castella. Participating wineries include All Saints, Anderson, Buller, Campbells, Chambers, Cofield, Morris, Mt Prior, Rutherglen Estates and Stanton & Killeen.
Muscat masterclass Sunday morning 3 August with distinguished Muscat makers, 10.30am 12 noon at the Tuileries conference centre, Drummond Street, Rutherglen. Enjoy a tasting of the four unique Muscat classifications Rutherglen, Classic Grand & Rare and then create your own Muscat blend in the blending exercise. $40 per person including light lunch.
