Falls Creek 'Mile High' Dragon Boat Championships
The Rocky Valley foreshore comes alive this Australia Day long weekend for the Victorian mile high Dragon Boat Championships. Hundreds of competitors converge on the foreshore of the pristine alpine waters to battle it out dragon head to dragon head. It is a highly social day with plenty of friendly rivalry, especially when the mountains, Perisher, Hotham and Falls Creek battle it out. Never paddled a dragon boat before? There is no experience necessary on Saturday we provide all the necessary safety and skills training. The Victorian Dragon Boats Association provide experienced helms and instructors. The race itself is held on the Sunday amid the race distance is approximately 200 metres. On the foreshore a selection of food and drinks will be available. Saturday night the action continues back in the village with dinners and pre race parties, Sunday night is the official after party with live entertainment. As the highest dragon boat event in Australia, altitude is a factor, but win or lose, you will have a great weekend... You can always blame it on the alpine air.
