Kelly Country Classic
It will be kerb-to-kerb lycra in Glenrowan s main street on Sunday 9th November, when cyclists again converge on the town, for the 2008 Kelly Country Classic. Following in the footsteps of the legendary Kelly gang, the ride will start and finish in Glenrowan, with the choice of three routes designed to suit a range of rider abilities and fitness levels.
Participants will have the opportunity to win a range of fantastic food, beverage, accommodation and cycling goods in lucky prize draws on the day.
The most challenging ride will cover 150km of Kelly Country, from Glenrowan to Winton, Lurg, Benalla East, Tatong, Molyullah, Moyhu, Greta and back to Glenrowan. Still challenging, but not quite so arduous, riders can choose the 100km ride from Glenrowan to Lurg, Myrrhee, Moyhu and returning to Glenrowan. The 50km option will take cyclists from Glenrowan to Greta, Moyhu and back to the town, made famous by the Kelly Gang s Last Stand.
Following months of planning by a dedicated team from the Wangaratta BUGS and Northeast Health Wangaratta we are ready to deliver a first class cycling event offering fabulous scenery and a safe-cycling environment. Against the backdrop of the picturesque Kelly Country, the event promises to be a major attraction for cycling enthusiasts from across Victoria.
Cyclists will need to comply with the Victoria Road Rules and ensure their bicycles are roadworthy and operative. A range of food, beverage, accommodation and cycling goods are available to be won in lucky draw prizes by ride entrants. All proceeds from the ride will go towards our local hospital, Northeast Health Wangaratta to ensure high levels of quality care continue to be provided to our community.
