Murray Cod: The Biggest Fish in the River

An art exhibition honouring the world's largest freshwater fish - the Murray Cod.

The Murray Cod is much more than just the biggest fish in the River; it is a symbol for the River itself.

Murray Cod: the biggest fish in the river exhibition is a rich showcase of more than 40 works inspired by Australia's most iconic fish. The exhibition weaves historical illustrations and personal stories with contemporary indigenous art and photographs of the Murray Cod.

The Murray Cod, with its mouth as big as any storyteller and its tail as long as any yarn, has been a barometer for the health of our rivers and the subject of many an anglers' story.

Major highlights of the exhibition include:

* the first public viewing of a series of drawings and lithographs by colonial artist and naturalist Ludwig Becker;

* unseen images from renowned Australian photographer Narelle Autio, who was commissioned to document the relationship between people, the Murray Cod and the environ

* a striking selection of works created by indigenous artists that explore their spiritual and personal assoiciations with the Murray Cod and its river.

Curated by John Kean for the Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery and toured by National Exhibition Touring Support (NETS) Victoria.
