Australian artist Rosslynd Piggott continues to question the idea of perfection, purity and the precious in the next Helen Macpherson Smith Commission exhibition.
Extract: in 3 parts is a major new work employing film, painting and sculpture across three galleries, and sees Piggott continue her ongoing exploration of the micro-world of nature, the elements and life itself.
One of Australia s most prolific and celebrated artists, Piggott achieved critical acclaim as a painter in the 1980s, and since the 1990s has focused on painting as well as sculpture and installation. Her paintings are exquisitely detailed and finely textured, taking their point of reference from Italian Renaissance iconography and form and more recently aspects of Japanese culture.
Her sculptural and installation works are marked by an attention to aesthetics, the material properties of things, and the poetry and beauty of everyday domestic objects.
