Scoresby Steamfest
The Scoresby Steamfest is the Melbourne Steam Traction Engine Club's annual event to showcase the development of mechanical power.
The big mobile steam exhibits are always a highlight. Engines on display will include a rare pair of 25 tonne steam ploughing engines, traction engines, steam rollers, portable steam engines, a steam truck and even a steam driven fire engine. Many of these engines will be displayed driving equipment they drove in their working days.
There will be exhibitions of hay baling, water pumping, rock crushing, timber milling and winching all under steam power.
The Steamfest is held on the club's 8 hectare site which gives plenty of room to show the vintage earth moving equipment in action. A playpen area will feature draglines, bull dozers, graders and tractors.
In the exhibition sheds the permanently mounted collections of stationary steam engines, diesel generators and vintage workshop tools will all be operating.
A miniature railway runs on a 1 kilometre track around the grounds giving rides to kids young and old. A tractor drawn "people mover" also gives rides making it easier on the legs getting around the large site.
Over the weekend the club collection is augmented by displays from other kindred associations. There will be a display of model boats on the l the Fire Brigade Museum will be along, there will be oil engines, wood workers, vintage vehicles, a display of marvellous models by the Melbourne Meccano Club and more besides.
The site is well set up with shady picnic spots. Food and drinks are available.
