Get into Art
Public galleries across Victoria welcome all Victorians to visit their nearest local public art gallery on a special day of programs on Sunday 26 October 2008.
Galleries across the state will be open offering a range of programs to interest a wide cross section of people.
Curator s providing insights into key works in collections, walks through sculpture parks, hands-on activities for children and families are just some of the activities that will be held on the day. People who may never have visited their local gallery before will find this to be the perfect introductory day.
From the top of the state in Mildura, across to Gippsland in the east, Hamilton in the west and the multitude of galleries in metropolitan Melbourne, Victoria has a rich treasure trove of public galleries.
Collectively, the collections held in these organisations are a vast and extraordinary resource. Textiles are a feature of Ararat Gallery, sculpture is a speciality of McClelland Art Gallery + Sculpture Park and a dynamic changing exhibition program is a feature of Bundoora Homestead Art Centre.
The day is being coordinated by the Public Galleries Association of Victoria, and funding support has been provided by Arts Victoria.
