2009 UCI Melbourne Track World Cup
See the World's Best Burn up the Boards.
The UCI Track World Cup Classics is the premier track cycling series in the world. Melbourne will be one of just four stops on the global World Cup circuit in 2009.
2009 is the second of an initial three-year deal that sees the UCI Track World Cup Classic visit Melbourne. Along with the Herald Sun Tour, the 2010 UCI Road World Championships and the recently announced 2012 Track World Championships, the UCI Track World Cup is set to enhance Victoria s reputation as an epicentre for world renowned international cycling events.
Cycling is one of the fastest growing sports in the world, both at a professional and recreational level. In recent years, cycling has well and truly captured Australia s imagination. With outstanding results at the 2000 and 2004 Olympics, 2006 Commonwealth Games and a medal table-topping performance at the 2009 World Championships, Australian cyclists are amongst the world s best. But it has been Cadel Evans courageous performance in the Tour de France that has really catapulted the sport of cycling to the headlines.
In November the world's best cyclists - many who ride the roads of Europe as well as the track - will come to Melbourne for three big days and nights of cycling action. The sprinters will hit speeds of up to 80kmph as they ride handlebar-to-handlebar on the 45-degree banking. The Madison Teams will fling each other into the pressing peloton lap after lap. And the team pursuit will give their all, legs on fire, to stand atop the podium and hear their national anthem played out loud.
The 2009 UCI Track World Cup Classic - don't miss the action.
